Inside Out Worship: Preaching Series

7 Lessons

When Jesus was asked what the most important commandment is, he answered that it is to love God with heart, mind, soul and strength. In this response Jesus conveyed that the Christian life is not about mere belief nor mere obedience, but rather it is about being fully devoted to God in every aspect of our being.

This series looks at what this means for one aspect of our being – our inward emotional life. The series explores different emotions that are common to the human experience and looks at how these emotions relate to our worship. The emotions covered are delight, sadness, fear, worry, anxiety and comfort.

In teaching this, try to avoid the trap os simply telling people what they should or shouldn’t feel. Instead validate that people feel the way they do and explore what it looks like to channel this emotion in a godwards direction, in a similar way to what we see the psalmists do from a variety of different emotional starting points.
