The book of Nehemiah tells the story of the walls of Jerusalem being rebuilt following the Babylonian exile. At the start of the book, Nehemiah is told of the desperate and vulnerable state of those who have returned, and he carries the burden to rebuild the city wall to provide security and protection. As he undertakes the project, it becomes clear that much more than physical building is required, and Nehemiah with the other leaders seek to rebuild the people as well. Though our context is very different, the principles that shine through Nehemiah about building for the Lord are tremendously helpful as we build today.
This preaching series walks through the story of Nehemiah, using the idea of building as an image to learn from as we labour to see God’s kingdom come today.
