The book of Ruth tells the story of how God worked powerfully through a unlikely woman to bring hope and redemption to his people. We are introduced to Ruth in chapter 1 and learn that she is an outsider to the people of Israel, from the nation of Moab, and she is a widow. This leaves her in a position of vulnerability, financial insecurity and social ostracisation. In this story we see Ruth’s sacrifice out of love and loyalty for her mother-in-law Naomi, we see the godly actions of noble Boaz, as he pays notices to and cares for Ruth, we see a romance develop and we see a story from which comes the redemption of Ruth, of Naomi, and through their line, of the whole world.
In this short preaching series, we tell Ruth’s story over four weeks, looking at what it means for our own redemption today.
