What God Requires – Preaching Series on Micah

In this six-week preaching series through the book of Micah, we explore a prophetic message that confronts injustice, exposes false leadership, and calls God’s people back to faithful living. Set against a backdrop of social corruption and spiritual decline, Micah speaks both warning and hope, announcing God’s judgement on sin while pointing forward to his promised King and his enduring mercy.

The book of Micah was written into a time of moral decline, corrupt leadership, and looming judgement. God’s people had drifted from him, injustice was widespread, and many of those who should have been leading the nation towards faithfulness were instead contributing to its downfall. Through the prophet Micah, God speaks with remarkable clarity about the sins of his people, but also with extraordinary hope about the future he has planned.

In this six-week series, we will follow the movement of Micah’s message from confrontation to restoration. We will see the justice God seeks from his people and the leadership he rejects, before turning to the glorious future he promises through a coming shepherd-king. Along the way we will discover what God truly requires from those who follow him, and ultimately finish with one of the most beautiful pictures of God’s mercy found anywhere in Scripture. Throughout the book, Micah reminds us that God takes sin seriously, but that his purposes are ultimately to redeem, restore, and show mercy to his people.

This series includes notes for preachers, as well as suggested follow-up questions for community groups and some ideas for worship songs that link to the series.
