God told Hosea to marry a prostitute.
But that’s not the point.
She cheated on him and left him.
But that’s not the point either.
Many commentators want to justify how God could let one of his guys marry ‘a woman like that’.
They’ve missed the point.
John Calvin reckoned it didn’t really happen. It must be a vision because that gets God off the hook.
He definitely missed the point.
Firstly, the woman had a name. She was called Gomer.
Gomer had a story. She had lived a messed up life and yet was chosen and welcomed in by grace. However much she blew it, she was always accepted back.
Sound familiar?
The point of Hosea is that God loves Gomer.
The point is that God loves people like Gomer.
Hosea is a redemption story.
The point is that God loves you.
