Constructing a Talk

So far in this course we have looked at how to draw truth from a Bible passage. This is essential to good preaching, but it is not sufficient.

The next step in the process is crafting a message that will get this truth across to your congregation.

In order to do this there are different tools and elements you will want to deploy. Your listeners will have different dreams, pressures and questions on their mind as they are sitting down to listen, so it is important to grab their attention early and to connect with their story, showing how the truths you will speak about make a promise of changing their lives in some way.

Once you have won their minds and hearts, share with them the truths you have seen in the word, showing them how it comes from the passage, explaining the difference it makes, using a variety of illustrations and applying it to their lives.

Finally, having made the promise of change and fulfilled this through the Biblical content, you want to show them it works, open up examples of these Biblical truths in action, point people to how it is all fulfilled in Christ and invite them to respond.
